Mr. K P Ahammed Koya, is name synonymous with competence & excellence. He is at the pinnacle of achievement and fame not just by luck, he has strived for it, we shall now go down the memory lane and collect a few facts………

Born on 1st of July 1949, he had all the tantrums and pranks a little boy could come up with. After his basic education he passed his SSLC examination in the year 1966, pre-degree from the university of Kerala in the year 1968 with physics, chemistry & mathematics. And in 1972 he took his electrical engineering degree from Thrissur government engineering college. His academic career was remarkable scoring high percentage and he excelled in his M Tech from IIT Mumbai in the year 1979 with flying colours.

Koya Sir, the popular name is synonymous to an expert teacher. After a short stint as junior electrical inspector he joined Thrissur Government engineering as a lecturer. There after he climbed the ladder one step at a time and finally retired as the principal of the college.

His achievements include

• Research project on speed control of induction motor using thyristors funded by Government of Kerala and static scherbius drive funded by IIT, Mumbai.
• Publications of 9 papers in International Journals and National conferences and 3 papers are under publication.
• Consultancy activities for electrical system designs for government, public sector and private sector, testing of equipment and large motors for industries.
• 23 MTech thesis have been successfully guided by him and degree awarded by Calicut university and CUSAT.

He has specialized in power electronics, electric drives and machines, power systems and control systems.

He has membership with MISTE, MIEEMA, MIEEE. His innovations and contributions in teaching include design of curriculum, teaching methods, laboratory equipments and evaluation method and preparation of resource material. Even after his retirement, he is not sitting idle, he is still imparting wisdom. The wealth of knowledge he has gained is immense and he is distributing the same to the lucky ones in IGNOU center – Thrissur, LBS and Cochin University of Science and Technology. Above all these he is also an academic counselor.
